Game Garage Sale – Drop Off Window

If you’ve been seeking the thrill of Garage Sale season but with a Board Game twist you’ve come to the right place. We are so excited to announce that the Rook Room Game Lounge & Cafe is hosting our very first Game Garage sale on April 11 – none other than National Board Game Day! What is a better way to celebrate than getting some cash for your old games and picking up some new ones to add to your collection.

Please read everything below carefully so we can all have an exciting and successful Game Garage Sale for the community. Here’s everything you need to know:

Game Drop Off: Friday, April 3 through Thursday, April 9

During these dates you can drop off your used Board Games from 11:00 AM to 7:00 PM at the Rook Room Game Lounge & Cafe (Yes, even when we are not open for regular hours).

You must bring a completed Seller’s Sheet to drop off your games.

Seller’s Sheet

Print and bring your filled out Game Garage Sale drop off form (on the website linked below) to ensure we can contact you and price your games correctly. We ask you please bring this with you when you come to drop off, but if printing is a barrier we will have some forms for you to fill out in our space.

We will not be accepting any games to sell outside of this window, so please make sure you get your games in during this time!

Game Garage Sale: April 11 from 8:00 AM to 2:00 PM

During this time Rook Room staff will host and run the garage sale, selling all of the games the community brought in.

You will get 75% of the profits of your game. Selling an old copy of Catan for $30? You’ll get $22.50. An uno deck for $5, you’ll get $3.75.

We will not accept any day of games to put on sale so make sure to bring them in the drop off window!

Game Pick Up Days: Thursday, April 14 to Sunday, April 19

From 11:00 AM to 7:00 PM Thursday, April 14 to Sunday, April 19 on you can pick up any of your games that didn’t sell and get your payout by stopping by the Rook Room Game Lounge & Cafe. You also have the option for us to donate your leftover games to a local nonprofit.

We have our neon price stickers at the ready and cannot wait to celebrate National Board Game day by keeping games out of the landfill and putting them in the  hands of new owners ready to play them! Feel free to read further in the FAQ below if you have questions.

FAQ:

Why are you doing this? We’ve been doing puzzle swaps for years now and between requests for something similar for games and talking with our counterparts across the country, we knew this would be a great fit to host in Des Moines. Who doesn’t love a garage sale?!

When do I drop off my games again? Game drop off is Friday, April 3 through Thursday, April 9 from 11:00 AM to 7:00 PM.

I am unable to print a Seller’s Sheet, what should I do? If printing is a barrier for you, we will have limited quantities of the Seller’s sheet available at the Rook Room to fill out when you arrive, but it must be filled out in order to leave your games with us to sell.

How do I price my games? You will fill out the games pricing sheet linked here and above. This helps our team keep track of your games to pay you and makes our set up run smoothly. It is up to you how to price your games, but our general recommendation is between 50-75% of market value depending on the wear and quality of your game.

What if I don’t want the games that don’t sell? We can donate your unsold games to local nonprofits like The Beacon, Senior Center, and youth programming!

How do I get paid? You will receive your payout by coming in during the game pick up window of Thursday, April 14 to Sunday, April 19 from 11:00 AM to 7:00 PM.

Why am I only get 70% of the sale price of my games? The Rook Room team is putting a lot of time and effort into making a great Game Garage sale for the community and hosting it in our space, so we want to pay our people for their time and make sure we can continue to host exciting events like this for the community!
