Learn to Slay: Intro to Dungeons & Dragons

EVENT UPDATE:  Due to unforeseen circumstances, we are unable to provide normal food and beverage service, and the Rook Room will be closed to the public; however, we will continue to hold our Learn to Slay event. There will just not be food or beverages available, so please feel free to bring beverages and snacks.

Doors will open at 1:30 PM ahead of the event. All other details remain the same.

Get ready to dive into adventure! Join the Rook Room and Des Moines & Dragons for a three-part Dungeons & Dragons event series where you’ll learn to play, run, and build your own campaign.

The three sessions will run on Sunday evenings between February 8th and February 22 at 2 PM. Attend one session or all of them!

Each session will begin at 2 PM and last about two hours, including a presentation by DM Paul from Des Moines and Dragons and plenty of time for Q&A. Here’s what you can expect for each session:

Session One, February 8th: Introduction to D&D for beginning players. Create a character, learn basic skills, combat, role-playing, and more. We’ll cover everything you need to begin playing. Each participant will get an Adventurer Pack including dice, reference guides, and character sheets.

Session Two, February 15th: Becoming a Dungeon Master. Learn the basics of running a D&D campaign as a dungeon master, including creating a campaign, DM tools and resources, leading players, role-playing, common issues, and more. Each participant will get an Explorer Pack with reference guides, a one-shot adventure, and a surprise DM gift.

Session Three, February 22nd: Creating engaging worlds. Learn how to build campaign settings and adventures that will leave your players coming back for more. Each participant will get a Dungeoneer’s Pack with reference materials and a special adventure gift.

Attend one of the sessions or come to all three – you choose your own D&D adventure. Registration is $10 per session.
