Puzzlepalooza Duel Head-to-Head Jigsaw Puzzle Competition

Tuesday, October 28 @ 6:30 pm to 9:30 pm

Get your game face on and get ready for the Rook Room’s latest addition to the Puzzlepalooza family, Puzzlepalooza Duel!

We’re blowing the whistle and getting this matchup for the ages underway on Tuesday, October 28th, starting at 6:30 pm at the Rook Room Game Lounge & Cafe.

Not familiar with the rules of the game, Rookies? Well, here’s the playbook:

It’s every player for themselves during Puzzlepalooza Duel in a night of head-to-head jigsaw puzzling matchups. Players will sit across from each other and alternate putting pieces together on a shared, roughly 100-piece puzzle. Once one of the players had connected two pieces or chunks of pieces together, they hit their puzzle timer and pass to their competitor to do the same. But watch out, because the clock is ticking. The player with the lowest time elapsed when the puzzle is completed is the winner.

Oh yeah, one more thing. This wouldn’t be Puzzlepalooza without a Sabotage. In Puzzlepalooza Duel, each player will get the opportunity to Sabotage once per round. When the turn gets passed to them, a player will be able to use their Sabotage to flip the turn right back to their competitor – essentially skipping the need to add a piece or have any time elapse on their timer.

Now that you know the rules, here’s a look at how the night will go, so you know what to expect:

We have room for up to 40 players to get in on the action. When participants arrive, they’ll be divided into one of two color divisions. There will be six total rounds. Each round, one division will compete while the other hits the spectator zone, where they can rest, relax, train, snack, quench their thirst, and refresh while waiting for their next match. At the end of each roughly 15-minute round, the divisions will switch, with one tagging in to play a new match and the other rotating into the spectator zone. Each player will play in three rounds, meaning they’ll get three total head-to-head matches.

The player with the lowest combined time at the end of the six rounds will be our champion and take home a 1st place prize package. We’ll also be throwing in a prize for 2nd place.

What’s a game without some cheerleaders? We like to say that Puzzlepalooza Duel IS a spectator sport, so go ahead and bring your cheer squad along for the ride!

Registration is $15 per player. Spectators get in for free. Full food and beverage menus will be available throughout the night, so come hungry and thirsty.

Doors open starting at 6:00 pm with the introduction, rules, and first round beginning at roughly 6:30 pm. The competition should take about two hours. Feel free to hang around after to do some puzzling, games, or relaxing. Last call is at 9:00 pm with doors closing at 9:30 pm.
