We’re a brand new concept for Des Moines, so we know you have questions. We get it. Let us help answer some of those!
Is there a dress code? Nope! Feel free to come in comfy.
Can I take photos and video? Yes, please! Post all over social. Be sure to tag @therookroom while you’re at it.
Are there age restrictions? No, as long as children are with an adult. In fact, we have a whole section of kid-oriented games for our younger friends.
What about allergies, dietary needs, and other accommodations? We have menu options available for those with dietary restrictions and allergies, including vegan options, vegetarian options, and gluten-free options. And we’re always adding more! Ask a member of our staff if you have additional questions or concerns; they’d love to help you. Note we do cook with potential allergens in the kitchen, and there may be a risk of cross-contamination.
Are you accessible to those with mobility issues or disabilities? Yes, of course! In fact, we spent months making this space even more accessible before opening our doors. We have a lift available for those who may have trouble with stairs, at-table QR code ordering, color-blind-friendly game categorization, and accessibility tools, including raised-pip dice, card holders, dice trays, and more! If we can help in any way, just ask!
How do I order food and drinks? We’re not your average restaurant when it comes to service. We want you to be able to focus on the people and games around the table, so we have table-side QR code ordering. Scan the QR code on your Table Tower and start ordering. Your food and drinks will arrive shortly.
Do you have waitstaff? Servers? We don’t have standard restaurant table service – no server touches unless you want them! In that case, just press a button on your Table Tower remote.
What about refills? If it’s a free refill item, like our sodas, just signal a staff member with your Table Tower remote. If you need a refill on something else – like specialty drinks or food – feel free to put an order in with your Table Tower QR code!
I don’t like QR codes. Do y’all have paper menus? We do! Just ask a staff member or press a button on the Table Tower remote. We’ll get you all situated.
What is a PlayPass? Think of it as a fee to help us make sure our game library is up to your standards and ours! It’s $7 per person after 4 PM Thursday through Sunday. This fee helps us replace missing or broken game pieces when something goes a little wonky. The best part is that it includes a Parking Exit Pass – a $5 value – if you park in one of the nearby paid public parking lots!
What is a Parking Pass? This magic ticket allows you to get out of our nearby paid public parking lots, whether you stay for 30 minutes or 5 hours, for just $5. If you’re staying longer than an hour, it’s already worth it! Ask a staff member to purchase a Parking Pass and present it at the gate on your way out.
Where can I park? Check out the section below for specifics and a map!
Parking is available for free on SW 5th Street as well as other nearby side streets.
Additional parking is available in the three MLK River Park Parking Lots within a block of our space including:
Parking Lot B southeast of our space and accessible from Martin Luther King Jr Pkwy or SW 5th Street.
Parking Lot C at the corner of SW 5th Street and Tuttle Street and accessible from SW 5th Street.
See the map below for specific locations.
We have Parking Passes available for $5 a piece that will allow you to exit any of the above paid lots regardless of the amount of time you’re parked there. Be sure to order a Parking Pass before you leave or purchase one from a staff member.
