Friendsgiving Game Buffet featuring Some ‘R’ Set

Enjoy a little Thanksgiving Eve fun, friends, games, and drinks with our upcoming Friendsgiving Game Buffet game night featuring the Iowa-based game Some ‘R’ Set with local game publisher The Levi Game Company.

Join us the night before Thanksgiving – Wednesday, November 22nd – at Peace Tree Brewing Des Moines Branch between 5:30 PM and 8:30 PM for all the excitement including:

• An extra special game feature with Some ‘R’ Set – a more than 100-year-old game created right here in Iowa. Levi Horsley, owner of the game’s publisher The Levi Game Company, will be with us all night with a cohort of Some ‘R’ Set game masters to help tell you about the game and run learn-to-play sessions.
• A “Friendsgiving Game Buffet” of Rook Room games with a special focus on food-themed games (and, of course, dozens of other popular games from our collection) that are all free to play all night.
• Cribbage and Euchre by-request learn-to-play sessions led by Rook Room game masters Annelise and Tony all night.
• A limited Barrel-Aged Imperial Stout tapping from the brewing pros at Peace Tree.
• A Pie Bird Pies pop-up with tons of tasty pies from 4 PM to 6 PM – so get there early and snag some pie before it runs out.
• And last but certainly not least, a Peace Tree “1-2-3 To-Go Special” offering $1 off 32oz growlers, $2 off 6-packs, and $3 off 64oz growlers.

More About Some ‘R’ Set

Created by Arthur Hodges in Carroll, Iowa as Somerset in 1903, the playing card game looks a bit different than a standard deck of cards replacing face cards with fractions. It grew to include several variations and was eventually acquired by Parker Brothers.

The Levi Game Company bought the game in 2019 and pushed the more than 100-year-old game into the future with new card designs, updated instructions, learn-to-play videos, merchandise, and much more.

Some ‘R’ Set is a bidding and trick-taking game that plays a lot like Euchre or Spades. The Levi Game Company founder Levi Horsley will be joining us along with a number of Some ‘R’ Set pros for our Friendsgiving event to tell the story of the game and teach you how to play.

If you love it, they’ll also have copies on hand for you to purchase – making a perfect addition to your Thanksgiving festivities (and maybe even a new holiday tradition)!
