Why would you want to build a board game bar? It’s a lot of work, tons of stress, and it’s not super cheap. Why not just leave the board games to game nights at home and the occasional tap room?
For us here at The Rook Room, it’s simple: we love games and we want to create a space to spread that love by making gameplay more accessible to everyone.
Cost Concerns
Games can be expensive. Want to try something new? You’ll probably have to buy it off the shelf or borrow it. We want to create a game library big enough to let anyone and everyone play any game they want without paying an arm and a leg.
A Place to Relax
Finding a place to play can be stressful. If you have space at home, you still have to make plans, clean up, get drinks, make snacks, and clean up after. That’s a lot of work.
There’s bars or cafes, but taking up a table for several hours can be frowned upon, leaving everyone a little uncomfortable.
That’s why we want to provide a space where you don’t have to worry about any of the arrangements and you can feel comfortable to stay as long as you want. If you’re having fun, we’re having fun.
Sharing the Love
Most of all, we just want to share our love of games. The Rook Room owners, Annelise and Tony, love playing games. From classic board games like Monopoly, to new offerings like Ticket to Ride, to role-playing adventures like Dungeons & Dragons, we love it all and we love the memories we’ve made over a table with friends.
We want everyone to have the opportunity to experience the same thing by creating a space that makes gaming easy and accessible.
So Much More
That’s far from a complete list of reasons we’re trying to get The Rook Room off the ground. Others include giving back to our community, providing a creative space for game makers, building a home for clubs, organizations, and hobbyists, and promoting activities that don’t involve being absorbed in technology.
If you want to know more about our motivation, our core values section on our About page is a good place to start.
As we continue this awesome adventure, we’ll be posting updates right here on our blog. So follow along as we work to make The Rook Room a reality!
